History The exact origin of this horse is unknown. Genetic testing has shown that it is related to the other Iberian horse breeds. This leads to the assumption that the Monchino horse is a descendant of the original Iberian horse. Monchino horses are seen as being primitive. THey are robust and the feral herds can cope with hot summe ras well as ice cold, snowy winter. The horses are not only tough, they are also social, clever, teachable and stubborn. Earlier they were used as pack and riding animals as well as for the daily work. Motorisation meant that the horses were no longer needed and they were left to care for themselves.
